A very Happy – albeit belated! – New Year to all our readers! No doubt everyone has had a busy festive season and is now trying to consider what 2019 might have in store – other than some strange combinations of meals, as we all try to eat up the Christmas goodies and clear out the frozen leftovers!
The Christmas season went well with our usual round of events, starting with lunch following Advent Service, then Gift Sunday and Carol Service. This year we ‘went crackers’! We had seven crackers to be pulled, containing nativity figures, readings and a link word for today’s world How fortunate we were to have some young children – and one young-at heart nonagenarian! -to help us pull them! We couldn’t have guessed when we were planning that the service would be as appropriate for the congregation as it was. God was certainly at that meeting! And the Chiltern Singers added to the mix, with us joining in a variety of animal noises from the stable.
2018 saw the usual mix of ups and downs at Edward Street, with several people experiencing illness and loss, but throughout there has remained the close love and support which we share as a fellowship. Heather has quickly become a part of that, involving herself in the life of the church and giving us guidance, challenge and encouragement. We very much appreciate what she is able to do with us and for us.
This year’s challenge is to develop our own spirituality and to encourage our hall users to join us by making them more aware of some of the things we have considered in our services or in other conversations. We hope to have an area in the hall which will illustrate this and encourage them to participate in our ideas. As always there are the financial and building challenges which face any church, but we hope that they don’t prove too onerous. We remain committed to the Heartland LAG and enjoy meeting our friends from the other churches, either in our local L & D cluster or the wider group.
We move forward into 2019 in love, hope and fellowship, wishing you every blessing in this new year.
